Norway’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen, held a courtesy meeting with Bangladesh’s Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Alexander Falck-Bilden, deputy head of mission at the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, and Sayeed Muntasir Bayzid, the embassy’s economic and trade adviser.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in renewable energy, offshore exploration and green investment.
Mr Mahmood sought technical and financial support from the Norwegian government for power-sector auditing to improve transparency, strengthen the assessment of electricity demand and reduce system losses.
The meeting also discussed Norway’s participation in Bangladesh’s offshore bidding process, investment in renewable energy and solar power, and Norway’s continued engagement in Bangladesh’s clean-energy transition.
The two sides also explored the potential for expanding technology transfer, technical training and financial support in line with Bangladesh’s renewable energy roadmap.
Mr Mahmood thanked Norway for its long-standing partnership with Bangladesh and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for Norwegian investment in the power and energy sectors.
He said Bangladesh welcomed greater participation from the Nordic countries in helping the country achieve its renewable energy targets and strengthen energy security.
Mr Gulbrandsen reiterated Norway’s interest in deepening bilateral ties with Bangladesh in trade, investment and technical cooperation, particularly in offshore renewable energy and green technologies.
He also expressed his government’s interest in exploring further areas of cooperation between the two countries.
