The government has increased the price of kerosene by Tk 10 per litre — from Tk 104 to Tk 114 — for the month of June, citing concerns over fuel adulteration.
At the same time, prices of other fuels have been reduced. According to the new rates announced by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD), the price of diesel has been cut by Tk 2 to Tk 102 per litre. Petrol and octane prices have each been reduced by Tk 3, bringing them down to Tk 118 and Tk 122 per litre respectively.
Officials said the price hike for kerosene aims to prevent its illegal mixing with higher-priced fuels like diesel and petrol — a practice that undermines fuel quality and market fairness.
“The increase in kerosene price is not expected to have any significant impact on public life,” EMRD officials stated.
The new fuel prices will take effect from Sunday (June 1), as per an official notification issued by the EMRD on Saturday night.
For context, in May, the prices of diesel and kerosene were both reduced by Tk 1 to Tk 104 per litre. Octane and petrol prices were also brought down by Tk 1, to Tk 125 and Tk 121 respectively. Fuel prices remained unchanged in March and April. Prior to that, in February, all fuel types — petrol, octane, diesel, and kerosene — saw a Tk 1 per litre increase.
