BPDB Director threatened at gunpoint inside office; complaint filed with Motijheel Police

A senior official of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has filed a complaint alleging that he was threatened at gunpoint inside his office in an attempt to obstruct official proceedings against a contractor.

Nannu Mia, Director of the Procurement Directorate at BPDB, lodged a General Diary (GD) with Motijheel Police Station following the incident, which occurred on June 24 at the BPDB Procurement Directorate office located in the WAPDA Building in the capital’s Motijheel area.

According to the GD, an individual identified as Anis unlawfully entered the office premises, confronted the director, and demanded that he not submit an official report against a contracting firm named S. Commercial Enterprise. When the director refused, Anis allegedly drew a firearm, issued death threats, and used abusive language.

The complaint further states that Anis claimed he was acting on behalf of Saiful Islam, a person linked to the contractor in question.

Terming the incident a deliberate attempt to obstruct official duties, the BPDB official urged law enforcement authorities to take immediate legal action. He warned that such intimidation tactics not only endanger public officials but also undermine transparency and accountability in public procurement processes. Motijheel Police confirmed receipt of the complaint and said they are currently investigating the matter.
