Bangladesh’s food grain reserves have seen a notable increase at the start of the current fiscal year, with government warehouses holding a total of 1.764 million metric tonnes of rice and wheat—an increase of nearly 300,000 tonnes compared to the same period last year, says CA’s verified facebook page.
According to data from the Ministry of Food, the stock as of July 1 comprises 1.541 million metric tonnes of rice and 223,000 metric tonnes of wheat. The rise in rice stock reflects robust domestic procurement and imports.
However, the wheat stock has declined due to higher distribution, which outpaced total procurement from both domestic and international sources.
On the same date last year, the total food grain stock stood at 1.473 million tonnes, including 1.06 million tonnes of rice and 413,000 tonnes of wheat.
