A discussion meeting, donation cheque distribution ceremony, and special prayer session were held on Sunday at Bidyut Bhaban, organised by the Power Division as part of the ‘July Reawakening Programme 2025’.
The event was arranged to pay tribute to the families of those who were martyred and injured during the July movement.
Power Division Secretary Farzana Mamtaz attended the programme as the chief guest. She paid solemn tribute to the martyrs and prayed for the eternal peace of their souls.
Calling for the establishment of a just, corruption-free and discrimination-free society, she urged officials from both the public and private sectors to perform their duties with integrity. She also pledged continued support for the families of the martyrs and the injured.
Family members of the deceased and injured recounted their stories of sacrifice and hardship. Rahidun Sajba Banu, wife of martyred Md Jan Sharif, emotionally recalled the trauma her family had endured.
“No amount of financial aid can ever replace the love my daughter lost or the pain we have suffered,” she said. “The martyrs gave their lives out of deep patriotism, but today, their families have been forgotten.”
Md Fayez, who lost an eye during the July movement, described the horrific experience he faced. Another injured fighter, Md Rakib Hossain, demanded a proper investigation into the incidents and called for justice and adequate medical care for the wounded.
Additional Secretary (Administration) Md Sabur Hossain delivered the welcome address. Additional Secretary (Development) and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board also spoke during the commemorative discussion.
As part of the programme, 25 cheques of Tk 1,00,000 each were distributed—17 to families of the martyrs and 8 to severely injured individuals, including four who lost their eyesight and four others with critical injuries—totalling Tk 25 lakh.
Earlier, on April 20, 2025, the Power Division had provided Tk 1.05 crore to the ‘July Memorial Foundation’.
The event concluded with a special prayer seeking forgiveness for the departed souls, quick recovery of the injured, and the overall welfare of the nation.
