Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, announced that the next parliamentary election will be held in February 2026.
He made the announcement during a televised address to the nation today.
“On behalf of the interim government, I will send a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner asking the Election Commission to arrange the national elections in February 2026, before the next Ramadan,” he said, says BSS report.
The Chief Adviser made the remarks while delivering his televised address before the nation marking the July Uprising Day.
The Chief Adviser sought prayers from all so that all the citizens of this country can successfully move forward in building a ‘New Bangladesh’ by holding the polls in a festive mood.
“We, on behalf of the government, will provide all kinds of support and cooperation so that the election can be conducted in a fair, peaceful and festive manner,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus presented the ‘July Declaration’ at a public gathering held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.
