The Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA) has submitted a six-point proposal to the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), calling for strategic measures to accelerate the country’s entry into the global semiconductor value chain.
A BSIA delegation, led by its President M. A. Jabbar, met with BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun at his office, where the proposals were formally handed over.
The delegation included BSIA Directors Kamrul Ahsan Dewanjee and Ashiqur Rahman Tanim, along with Nahian Rahman Rochi, Head of Business Development, and Johary Bin Akhter, Associate Relationship Manager.
The proposals highlighted the need for: Organizing semiconductor roadshows in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, and the United States.
It also proposed developing policy frameworks and incentive schemes to attract investments, particularly from non-resident Bangladeshis.
The BSIA suggested prompt implementation of the semiconductor Taskforce recommendations.
The proposal to allow cash incentives for semiconductor service exports; enacting a National Semiconductor Act; and Official recognition of BSIA as an industry partner by BIDA.
In response, BIDA’s Executive Chairman emphasized the importance of engaging relevant ministries and departments to ensure timely execution of the proposed initiatives. He assured BSIA leaders that the recommendations would be carefully reviewed and noted that a dedicated officer has already been assigned at BIDA to oversee the semiconductor sector. He urged BSIA to maintain regular communication to ensure smooth follow-up.
