Gas well drilling suspended for 48 hours

Considering the risk of earthquakes, a directive has been issued to temporarily suspend drilling (exploration) operations at the country’s oil and gas wells for 48 hours. However, gas supply will remain normal during this period.

Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, issued the directive today, Sunday. The Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) has confirmed the matter.

Fauzul Kabir Khan said that since several earthquakes have occurred consecutively, drilling activities have been halted to ensure that oil and gas well operations do not further influence seismic activity.

Petrobangla stated that, as per the adviser’s instructions, exploration activities will remain suspended for 48 hours from today until 8 AM on November 25. If another earthquake occurs during this period, further instructions regarding continued suspension will be issued.
