Bangladesh approves import of 80,000MT fertilizer

Bangladesh on Tuesday approved two major fertilizer import proposals totaling 80,000 metric tonnes to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential agricultural inputs ahead of the upcoming cultivation season.

The decisions came from a virtual meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on the Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

40,000MT Urea to Be Imported from UAE

Under the Ministry of Industries, the committee approved the import of 40,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE.
The price was finalized at US$409.50 per metric tonne, bringing the total contract value to Tk 201.14 crore.

Another 40,000MT DAP Fertilizer from Morocco

The committee also recommended approval for importing 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertilizer under the 9th lot of the state-level agreement between Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

This DAP shipment will cost US$682.67 per metric tonne, with a total value of Tk 335.32 crore.

Imports to Stabilise Fertilizer Market

Officials said the timely import of urea and DAP will help stabilise the domestic fertilizer market, support farmers, and ensure smooth agricultural production across Bangladesh.
