Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) and the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting cooperation in education, research, innovation, and professional training.
The partnership is expected to play a significant role in enhancing industry–academia collaboration in Bangladesh.
The MoU was signed today at the Petrobangla Board Room in the presence of BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and Petrobangla Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman.
Petrobangla Secretary (Senior General Manager) Md. Amzad Hossain signed the agreement on behalf of Petrobangla, while Professor Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, Director of BUET’s Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), represented BUET.
Senior officials, directors, and representatives from both organisations were also in attendance.
BUET—recognized as one of Bangladesh’s top engineering universities—has earned a strong international reputation. Its alumni have made notable contributions in key positions globally.
The newly signed MoU aims to build on this legacy by enhancing research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and academic–industry engagement between Petrobangla and BUET.
Under the MoU, both institutions will engage in joint research projects, skill development programs, and capacity-building initiatives.
BUET researchers will gain access to Petrobangla’s industry laboratories, specialised software, and operational facilities, including drilling sites, seismic survey operations, process plants, and mining areas.
This hands-on exposure is expected to strengthen the practical application of academic research and enrich BUET’s engineering curriculum.
For research purposes, BUET will receive access to essential operational data, excluding confidential or national security–sensitive information.
The MoU will remain valid for five years and may be automatically renewed for an additional five-year term.
Officials from both organisations emphasised that strong industry–academia partnerships are crucial for accelerating innovation and technological advancement in Bangladesh.
The collaboration between Petrobangla and BUET is expected to enhance research output, support professional development, and establish a long-term strategic partnership that benefits both institutions and the country’s energy sector.
