The country currently has a total fuel stock of 192,919 tonnes, according to Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Joint Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
He disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Of the total reserves, diesel accounts for 128,939 tonnes, octane 7,940 tonnes, petrol 11,431 tonnes, and jet fuel 44,609 tonnes, he said.
Officials from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) stated that the existing stock would be sufficient to meet national demand for the next 15 to 16 days.
They also noted that several fuel-carrying vessels are expected to arrive within this period, easing concerns over any immediate supply shortage.
Meanwhile, the ministry has stepped up enforcement efforts to prevent fuel hoarding and ensure proper management. Since March 3, authorities have conducted 3,559 drives across the country.
During these operations, officials recovered 207,365 litres of diesel, 28,938 litres of octane, and 60,002 litres of petrol. A total of 1,244 cases were filed, resulting in fines amounting to approximately Tk 8.45 million, officials added.
