Robi marks five years as listed firm with strong earnings and digital growth

Bangladesh’s second-largest mobile network operator, Robi Axiata PLC, says strong corporate governance and sustained investment have driven steady growth in subscribers, profits and digital services nearly five years after its landmark stock market debut.

Marking the fifth anniversary of the company’s 2020 initial public offering (IPO), Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ziad Shatara said Robi had delivered consistent financial and operational growth while expanding its role in Bangladesh’s digital economy.

Robi’s IPO, launched in 2020, was the largest in Bangladesh’s capital market at the time.

According to the company, its active subscriber base reached 58.6 million by the second quarter of 2026, following the addition of 7.67 million subscribers since its listing. Internet users now account for nearly 79 percent of its customer base, while 72 percent use 4G services—the highest proportions in the country’s mobile industry, the company said.

Robi reported year-on-year growth in revenue and profit after tax from 2021 to 2025, with profit rising 29% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier.

The company said it had generated Tk 28.19 billion in profit after tax since 2021 and distributed Tk 28.55 billion in dividends over the same period, with dividend growth broadly matching improvements in earnings per share.

Robi also reported improved operational efficiency, with its EBITDA margin rising to 54.2% in the first half of 2026 from the level recorded at the time of its market listing. Its operating profit margin increased to 23.1% by the second quarter of 2026, up from 14.1% in 2020.

As demand for digital services continues to grow in Bangladesh, data has become an increasingly important source of revenue. Robi said data accounted for 44.4% of total revenue in the first half of 2026, compared with 36% in 2020, bringing it close to the contribution from traditional voice services.

The operator invested more than Tk 93.3 billion in network expansion between 2021 and mid-2026, excluding spectrum costs. During that period, the number of its 4G sites increased from 13,173 to 19,646, while its spectrum holdings expanded to 124 MHz.

Beyond telecommunications, the company has continued to invest in digital platforms and enterprise services. Its developer platform, bdapps, now hosts more than 125,000 applications created by 145,000 developers, while its ticketing platform, bdtickets, serves more than 80,000 travellers daily, according to the company.

Artificial intelligence has also become increasingly integrated into Robi’s operations, supporting network planning, customer service and product personalisation. More than 22.8 million customers now use the company’s self-service digital applications.

Shatara said robust corporate governance remained central to the company’s strategy as artificial intelligence and digital technologies become more deeply embedded across the business.

“We have continued to strengthen our data governance to protect customer privacy, guard against cyber threats and ensure AI is developed and deployed responsibly,” he said.

He added that strong board oversight and corporate governance would remain key to delivering sustainable long-term growth while supporting Bangladesh’s digital transformation.
