Bangladesh, China ink MoU to boost semiconductor cooperation

Bangladesh and China have taken a major step toward strengthening cooperation in the semiconductor sector with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA) and the Hubei Semiconductor Industry Association (HSIA). The signing ceremony took place in Dhaka on Sunday.

The MoU was signed by M. A. Jabbar, President of BSIA, and Professor Wei Liu, Vice President of HSIA, on behalf of their respective associations.

Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate to promote knowledge sharing and advanced technology exchange, facilitate joint research and development (R&D) projects, develop skilled human resources through training and certification programs, and encourage cross-border investment and business partnerships. They also agreed to organize joint events, trade delegations, and expos.

The partnership is expected to accelerate the growth of Bangladesh’s semiconductor ecosystem, strengthen its global competitiveness, and open up new avenues for innovation and collaboration.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Wei Liu, also Chairman of the Academic Committee at the School of Integrated Circuits, Wuhan University, said Wuhan is recognized as the “Optical Valley of China,” hosting hundreds of optical communication and semiconductor firms. “With over 60 universities and 1.3 million students, Wuhan is a hub of innovation and talent. Bangladesh also has a huge talent pool, creating opportunities for cooperation in technology exchange, engineer training, and academic collaboration,” he noted.

He added that HSIA, which represents around 500 semiconductor companies, plans to encourage some of its members to explore opportunities for joint ventures, technology transfer, and capacity-building initiatives in Bangladesh.

M. A. Jabbar, President of BSIA, expressed optimism about the collaboration. “Today’s program marks an important milestone. This partnership opens doors for business growth, academic exchange, and technological advancement between Bangladesh and China. It will help accelerate our progress in the global semiconductor value chain,” he said.

The event was attended by distinguished figures including Dr. ASMA Haseeb, Professor at BUET and BSIA Advisory Panel Member; Dr. Rokonuzzaman, Professor at NSU; Mr. Enayetur Rahman, Senior Adviser, BSIA; BSIA Directors Kamrul Ahsan Dewanjee, Aliya Shafquat, and Asiqur Rahman Tanim; Shakhawat Hossain, CEO of Tafuri Technologies Ltd.; Sirajul Alam Khan, CEO of SILICONOVA; and Tareq Khan, CTO of Prime Silicon.
