Bangladesh cuts jet fuel prices

Bangladesh has reduced jet fuel prices by Tk 9.68 per litre for domestic flights, reflecting a decline in international energy markets, the country’s energy regulator said on Wednesday.

The price of jet fuel for domestic routes has been lowered to Tk 94.93 per litre from Tk 104.61, while the rate for international flights has been cut to 62 US cents per litre from 68 cents, according to a notification issued by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

The revised prices will take effect from midnight on 7 January.

BERC said the adjustment was made in response to falling global prices. The regulator introduced a pricing mechanism in May 2025 under which jet fuel prices are reviewed monthly and aligned with international market trends—rising when global prices increase and falling when they decline.

According to BPC’s annual report, jet fuel sales rose significantly in recent years, increasing from 471,535 metric tonnes in the 2022–23 financial year to 541,033 metric tonnes in 2023–24, reflecting a recovery in air travel demand.

Following the formation of the interim government, authority to set prices for furnace oil and Jet A-1 fuel was transferred to BERC through a government gazette issued on 15 September. The regulator subsequently held its first public hearing on jet fuel pricing on 23 March.
