Bangladesh lifts rationing on fuel oil sales amid supply concerns

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has lifted all restrictions on the distribution and rationing of fuel oil in an effort to stabilise supply during a period of global energy market volatility.

State Minister for power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit on Sunday, said the decision was taken to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply as tensions linked to the Iran–Israel conflict continue to disrupt international energy supply chains.

The minister said several oil cargoes have recently arrived at Chattogram port, improving the country’s fuel stock situation. In view of this, the government has decided to withdraw all existing controls, including rationing measures, on the distribution of fuel oil.

The minister noted that the move is intended to facilitate smoother fuel supply ahead of the upcoming Eid travel period and to support farmers during the ongoing boro cultivation season, when diesel demand typically rises.

According to him, all fuel distribution points across the country will now be allowed to supply fuel oil according to demand until further notice.

The ministry added that the decision takes effect from March 15, 2026.
