The Bangladesh government has approved the import of another cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Singapore at a cost of Tk 499.17 crore, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure a steady supply of energy in the country.
The decision was finalised on Tuesday during a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, held at the Secretariat and chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to meeting sources, the LNG cargo, scheduled for delivery between November 25 and 26, 2025, will be purchased from the spot market through an international quotation process.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division proposed the procurement under the Public Procurement Rules 2008.
The cargo will be imported from Singapore-based company Aramco Trading, with a fixed price of $11.88 per MMBtu. The total cost for the single cargo has been approved at Tk 499 crore.
This follows an earlier decision taken on September 9, where the committee approved the import of two LNG cargos from Singapore at a combined cost of over Tk 1,085 crore.
In that deal, one cargo was approved for purchase from Aramco Trading at $11.85 per MMBtu, totaling Tk 497.91 crore for 3.36 million MMBtu. The other cargo is to be imported from Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd, at a rate of $11.97 per MMBtu, totaling Tk 502.95 crore for the same quantity.
These LNG imports are part of the government’s broader strategy to stabilize the energy supply and meet growing domestic demand, particularly during peak consumption periods.
