Overall inflation in Bangladesh on point-to-point basis rose to 8.36 percent in September mainly thanks to a jump in food prices, according to latest data of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
In August, the country’s general inflation was recorded at 8.29 percent when food prices were lower compared to that of September.
The rate was 9.92 percent during the same month last year.
Food inflation in September was recorded at 7.64 percent up from 7.60 percent in August, while non-food inflation stood at 8.98 percent in September, a marginal increase from 8.90 percent in the previous month.
On the other hand, the non-food inflation rate also increased to 8.98 percent in September, up from 8.90 percent in the previous month.
A year earlier, in September 2024, food inflation was recorded 10.40 percent, and non-food inflation was 9.50 percent.
Inflation in both the rural and urban areas also recorded slight increase during the same period.
