BSREA, Australia’s Smart Energy Council sign strategic MoU on renewable energy

The Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) and Australia’s Smart Energy Council (SEC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, clean technology, and sustainable energy solutions.

The agreement — signed virtually on Tuesday — linked participants at the Australian High Commission in Dhaka with counterparts in Canberra and the SEC headquarters in Australia.

Under the MoU, BSREA and SEC will deliver solar training and certification programs for Bangladeshi installers, develop national technical standards for solar and battery technologies, implement end-of-life management solutions for renewable systems, and identify joint projects to attract clean energy investment.

Austrade coordinated the ceremony in both capitals over the past six weeks, bringing together senior officials from the Power Division, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), BSREA, and the Australian and Bangladesh high commissions.

“This partnership is a platform for transformative action,” said BSREA President Mostafa Al Mahmud. “By linking Australian innovation with Bangladesh’s renewable energy goals, we can create skilled jobs, open new industries, and accelerate our journey towards a cleaner future.”

SEC CEO John Grimes described Bangladesh as “one of the most promising clean energy markets in Asia,” saying the collaboration will “align standards, share expertise, and unlock investment opportunities” across the Asia–Pacific solar industry.

The initiative supports Bangladesh’s national renewable energy targets — 20% of the power mix from renewables by 2030 and 30% by 2040.
