Power and Energy Minister, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, has called on business leaders across the country to support government efforts to conserve electricity and ensure uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming summer and irrigation season.
The appeal was made at a consultation meeting held on Saturday afternoon at Bijoy Hall in the Power Division headquarters.
Representatives from various business associations attended the session, where the minister outlined the government’s temporary measures aimed at reducing electricity consumption amid evolving global challenges.
Mahmud stated that the measures would initially remain in place for three months.
However, he indicated that the timeframe could be adjusted following further discussions with business stakeholders ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Business leaders present at the meeting expressed their willingness to comply with the government’s directives.
They also submitted a number of recommendations and demands for consideration. In response, the minister requested their cooperation during this interim period and assured them that their proposals would be reviewed through ongoing dialogue.
He added that, in line with decisions taken by the Cabinet, government institutions have already implemented various initiatives and are taking all necessary steps to support energy conservation.
Emphasising collective responsibility, Mahmud urged all sectors to contribute towards reducing electricity and energy consumption to maintain a stable power supply during peak demand.
Also present at the meeting were State Minister for Textiles and Jute, Shariful Alam, and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Anindya Islam Amit.
