Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Taskeen Ahmed has urged individuals and businesses to embrace the government’s e-return system for filing income tax and VAT, highlighting its role in boosting compliance and ensuring transparency.
He made the call while inaugurating a workshop titled “Personal Income Tax and E-Return” at the DCCI auditorium on Saturday.
“Paying taxes is a moral responsibility for all citizens and entrepreneurs,” Ahmed said, stressing that tax revenue is vital for financing infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social safety nets. He noted that Bangladesh’s tax-to-GDP ratio remains significantly lower than in many other countries, underscoring the need to expand the tax base.
“The government has introduced the e-return filing system to remove barriers and strengthen transparency in tax administration,” he added, encouraging taxpayers to adopt the digital platform for smoother and more efficient compliance.
The workshop featured three technical sessions on Income Tax, VAT, and e-return filing, with presentations by experts including Lutful Hadee, Proprietor & CEO of Hadee Lutful & Co.; Md. Shafiqul Alam, Director of Bizz Solutions Ltd.; and Snehasish Barua, Partner at Snehasish Mahmud & Co., Chartered Accountants.
Over 70 participants from DCCI member firms attended the event, gaining practical insights on improving compliance and streamlining operations through digital filing systems.
DCCI Senior Vice President Razeev H. Chowdhury and Vice President Md. Salem Sulaiman were also present.
