Govt to conduct feasibility study on proposed separate company for BREB

The Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has formed a five-member inquiry committee to review and assess the proposal to establish a separate company for Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB).

The move comes in response to demands raised by the Engineers’ Association of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

According to an official order issued by the Power Division on June 17, the committee has been tasked with reviewing the proposal for the company, holding discussions with stakeholders, and submitting a recommendation report.

Additional Secretary (Admin) of the Power Division has been made convenor while Abdul Halim, former secretary for industries and public policy expert is expert member.

Besides, a representative of the Ministry of Public Administration equivalent to Joint Secretary; a representative of Finance Division equivalent to Joint Secretary are members.

Meanwhile, a deputy secretary (company affairs 2), power division, has been made member secretary.

Govt Forms Committee to Reinstatement of PBS officials 

The government has formed a five-member inquiry committee to investigate allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process of employees and officers in various Palli Bidyut Samitis under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB). 

The committee was constituted under the direction of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, specifically through the Power Division.

The committee will review the overall recruitment procedures, the number and structure of appointments, and general administrative practices followed by the Palli Bidyut Samitis. 

It will also assess whether the appointments were made according to the appropriate rules and standards.

The members of the inquiry committee are as follows:

A joint secretary (budget) of the Power Division  is made convenor of the committee while Abdul Halim, former secretary for industries and public policy expert, is the expert member.

Besides, a representative of the Ministry of Public Administration equivalent to Deputy Secretary;  a representative of Finance Division equivalent to Deputy Secretary are members.

Meanwhile, a senior assistant secretary (admin 2), power division, has been made member secretary.
