The government has approved proposals to procure two cargos of LNG and 1.10 crore liters of rice bran oil, and 50,000 metric tonnes of non-Basmati parboiled rice to meet the damand for energy and essential food items.

The decisions were made at the meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, held on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.

As part of the procurement, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted two separate proposals for purchasing LNG.

The state-owned Petrobangla will acquire one cargo of LNG from the spot market through an international quotation process with M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Ltd. from the United Kingdom.

The first cargo, costing approximately Tk694.47 crore, will have an LNG price of $14.48 per MMBtu. A second cargo will be procured for Tk682.00 crore, with LNG priced at $14.22 per MMBtu.

In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has been approved to procure 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils through the local Open Tender Method (OTM) from M/S Modina Trading Corporation, Dhaka.

The total cost for the lentils will be around Tk94.23 crore, with a price of Tk94.23 per kg.

In another move, TCB will purchase 1.10 crore liters of rice bran oil through OTM from multiple suppliers, including Green Oil and Poultry Feed Industries, Majumder Products Ltd., and Majumder Bran Oil Mills Ltd., at a cost of Taka 178.75 crore, with each liter priced at Tk162.50.

Furthermore, the Directorate General of Food, under the Ministry of Food, will procure 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Pattabhi Agro Foods Private Limited, India.

The purchase will follow the international OTM method, with each metric ton of rice priced at $429.55.

In addition, the Local Government Division presented two proposals related to the Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant Construction Project, Phase-3, under Dhaka WASA. Contracts have been awarded to China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd. and HICC-SRC JV, Dhaka, for separate works within the project.

These procurement decisions aim to ensure a steady supply of essential resources and address the rising demands in various sectors of the country.
