Bangladesh has reduced the retail price of privately supplied liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), offering modest relief to consumers ahead of Ramadan.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced a Tk15 reduction in the widely used 12kg LPG cylinder, bringing the new consumer price to Tk1,341 from Tk1,356. The revised tariff took effect from 6:00pm on Monday.
According to a notification signed by BERC Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, the price adjustment follows a tax restructuring by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The NBR withdrew value-added tax (VAT) at the production stage and instead imposed 7.5% VAT at the import stage of LPG.
Under the new rates, privately supplied LPG will retail at Tk111.79 per kilogram, including VAT. Prices for other cylinder sizes have also been set: Tk615 for 5.5kg, Tk1,677 for 15kg and Tk5,031 for 45kg cylinders. Reticulated LPG systems will cost Tk108.04 per kg.
Autogas used in transport has been fixed at Tk61.86 per litre.
BERC said the price of the state-run LP Gas Limited 12.5kg cylinder remains unchanged at Tk776.93.
The regulator warned that LPG and autogas must not be sold above the approved rates and said legal action would be taken against violators.
Earlier this month, on 2 February, the price of a 12kg cylinder was raised by Tk50 to Tk1,356 before the latest downward adjustment.
