A mobile court was conducted today in the Godnail Baripara area of Narayanganj, adjacent to several fuel depots, targeting unauthorized storage and sale of petroleum products. The drive was carried out under the Bangladesh Petroleum Act, 2016, by a special team comprising seven executive magistrates from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and the Narayanganj district administration.
The raid uncovered multiple irregularities at several fuel sales outlets, including the illegal stockpiling and sale of petroleum products without proper licenses. The establishments failed to provide valid purchase receipts or invoices for the fuel being sold.
Of particular concern was the unsafe storage of fuel, which posed serious risks to public safety. Investigators also found evidence that some businesses were operating without valid licenses.
As a result, five cases were filed and monetary penalties were imposed. Authorities seized a substantial quantity of illegally stored fuel, including 1,080 liters of diesel, 106 liters of octane, and 650 liters of furnace oil. A fake sales receipt used for fuel transactions was also recovered during the operation.
The confiscated fuel has been placed under the custody of Meghna Oil PLC and Padma Oil PLC for safekeeping.
Officials from the fuel outlets were instructed to strictly comply with the provisions of the Bangladesh Petroleum Act, 2016. They were also warned of stern legal action if similar violations occur in the future.
Authorities have announced that such mobile court operations will continue to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance in the energy sector.
