Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) on Monday signed a contract with Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited (BMTF) to introduce a GPS location-based gas meter and metering station monitoring management system across its gas production and marketing companies.
The contract was signed at Petrobangla’s boardroom in Dhaka as part of efforts to strengthen digital monitoring, improve efficiency and curb misuse in the gas distribution system.
Petrobangla Chairman Md Rezanur Rahman and BMTF Managing Director Major General Md Naheed Asgar were present at the signing ceremony.
On behalf of Petrobangla, the agreement was signed by Md Amzad Hossain, secretary (senior general manager), while Lt Col A S M Fakhrul Islam Chowdhury, signed for BMTF.
Directors of Petrobangla, senior BMTF officials and the managing director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC (TGTDPL) were also present.
Under the project, pressure, temperature and gas consumption at industrial establishments under Petrobangla’s distribution companies will be digitally monitored.
The system is also expected to prevent unauthorised access to RMS rooms, address pulse-missing issues and curb excessive load usage.
Officials said the project would pave the way for future automation of gas billing using artificial intelligence and large language model (AI/LLM) technologies, while enabling area-based gas supply management and category-wise consumption measurement.
