The government has appointed Md Arfanul Hoque as new chairman of the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla).
Mr Hoque, an additional secretary to the government, assumed the role on deputation on 5 February.
He previously served in the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, overseeing policy matters related to the country’s energy sector.
A member of the 18th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre, Mr Hoque joined the civil service in January 1999.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has held senior positions across field administration and several ministries, including education, information and communications technology, primary and mass education, and public administration.
His field postings include assignments as a first-class magistrate, assistant commissioner (land) and upazila nirbahi officer.
Mr Hoque holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Dhaka and a second master’s degree in the same discipline from Waseda University in Tokyo.
