The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), one of Bangladesh’s leading development institutions, celebrated its 35th anniversary on Thursday with a renewed pledge to expand its reach and impact.
With a vision to serve 25 million households by 2030, PKSF reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to inclusive growth, poverty alleviation, and sustainable livelihoods across the country.
The “PKSF Day 2025” celebration took place at PKSF Bhaban-1 in Agargaon, Dhaka, with PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan presiding over the event, says a release.
In his remarks, he said that over the past three and a half decades, PKSF has made remarkable contributions to reducing poverty and creating employment opportunities, becoming a “beacon of inspiration” for institutions nationwide.
He highlighted that PKSF has recently adopted its Strategic Plan 2025–2030, which focuses on generating decent employment, mitigating risks, and strengthening institutional capacities.
“The success of this plan will depend on our shared commitment and hard work at all levels,” he said, calling on officials and partner organizations to ensure its effective implementation in the field.
Zakir Ahmed Khan expressed gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh, international development partners, partner organizations, and millions of grassroots members for their enduring trust and cooperation.
“Together, we will continue building a stronger and more effective PKSF to serve people at a larger scale,” he affirmed.
In his welcome address, PKSF Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader reflected on the foundation’s origins, noting that the Government of Bangladesh established PKSF in 1990 based on indigenous concepts and the advice of Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus. “According to the World Bank, we are now the largest microenterprise financier in the world,” he said.
He added that the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund have recognized PKSF’s transparency and effectiveness by accrediting it as a National Implementing Entity. “Though this year’s anniversary is being observed in a modest manner, it marks the beginning of implementing our new strategic plan,” he said. “We look forward to celebrating our progress in 2030 with even greater pride.”
Deputy Managing Directors AQM Golam Mawla, Md Mashiar Rahman, Md Hasan Khaled, and Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam also addressed the event. Officials from across the organization participated in an open discussion titled “Our Commitment.”
The day’s celebrations began with the release of pigeons and a cake-cutting ceremony.
Currently, PKSF provides financial and non-financial services to over 20 million low-income families across Bangladesh through more than 200 partner organizations.
Guided by its new strategic plan, the foundation aims to expand this outreach to 25 million families by 2030—furthering its mission of empowering people for a sustainable future.
