Rosatom Technical Academy hosts internship for foreign nuclear specialists

Rosatom Technical Academy has conducted an internship programme for young foreign specialists in nuclear technologies as part of its regular training activities.

The programme, titled InteRussia, was implemented with the support of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom.

Participants included young professionals from Bolivia, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and several other countries.

The training aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of key Russian nuclear technologies and their practical applications in energy, medicine, agriculture and industry.

Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of national nuclear sector development, modern methods and tools for effective energy planning, and technological and operational issues related to large-capacity nuclear power plants and small modular reactors.

Special emphasis was placed on non-power applications of peaceful nuclear technologies in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.

A key component of the internship was on-site technical visits that offered participants firsthand exposure to the scale of Russia’s nuclear industry.

The group visited the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, which operates Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors, toured the world’s first nuclear power plant in Obninsk, and learned about best practices in nuclear medicine and radiation technologies at the A.F. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Center.

The programme concluded with participants preparing and defending country reports. These presentations assessed the current state of the nuclear sector in their respective countries and identified potential areas for future development, as well as ways to apply the knowledge and experience gained during the internship.

“Train-the-Trainers is a format that allows us to approach the transfer of nuclear education in practical terms. Participants not only learn best practices but also adapt them to their countries’ national priorities.

As a result, a professional community is formed that can independently develop educational solutions and strengthen international cooperation in the nuclear field,” said Irina Sarkisyan, Head of the Nuclear Education Transfer Project Office at Rosatom Technical Academy.

Many young nuclear specialists from Bangladesh have previously received training at the Rosatom Technical Academy, most of whom are now working at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
