TCB to start mobile truck sales of subsidised commodities from Sunday

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is set to begin selling subsidised essential commodities via mobile trucks in Dhaka and several other regions starting Sunday.

The initiative, aimed at ensuring affordable access to daily necessities, will run alongside TCB’s regular sales programme for smart family cardholders, who will continue to receive goods at previously fixed rates.

According to a press release signed by TCB Deputy Director Md. Shahadat Hossain, the mobile truck sales programme will continue for 30 days in Dhaka city, excluding Fridays.

A total of 60 mobile trucks will operate across the capital to distribute three key items — soybean oil, sugar, and lentils — at subsidised prices.

Outside Dhaka, the programme will be available in multiple regions including Chattogram, Gazipur, Cumilla, Faridpur, Patuakhali, and Bagerhat.

In these areas, the sales will continue for 19 days, from August 10 to August 31, excluding Fridays. Each truck is expected to serve up to 500 consumers per day.

Consumers will be able to buy 2 litres of soybean oil for Tk 230, 1 kilogram of sugar for Tk 80, and 2 kilograms of lentils for Tk 140. These subsidised prices are available to all, regardless of smart family card status, through the mobile trucks.

TCB stated that the campaign is part of a broader effort to make daily necessities more affordable and accessible, particularly for low- and middle-income groups.
