State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has set up a solar panel on the rooftop of his Gulshan residence from which 1200 units of electricity is being supplied to the national grid, says BSS report.
The Prime Minister is using 1000 units of electricity from the solar panel on the rooftop of his Gulshan residence and supplying 1,200 units of electricity to the national grid, Shahe Alam said.
He said, the Prime Minister has set an example by producing and using solar power. Arrangements will be made to use the rooftops of all government buildings to set up solar panel to meet their own electricity demand and supply surplus units in the neighbourhood.
The state minister also said that the electricity production process should be viewed as a business.
He made the remarks at a review meeting titled- Solar Electricity, Dengue Prevention and Development Programme Review Meeting- held at the Cooperative Building in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city today.
All Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and DD (LG) officials of the country participated in the meeting. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari were present at the meeting.
Urging the UNOs to remain alert at the field level regarding the possibility of destabilizing the situation ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja, Shahe Alam said, no disorder will be allowed.
He said instructions have been given to the UNOs to use all their strength to make the local government elections free, fair and impartial; the government will provide all-out cooperation in this regard.
He urged the UNOs to provide necessary financial assistance to the extreme poor in their areas if the Ministry of Public Administration cannot provide this money.
Local Government division will make arrangements to allocate the fund from revenue sector, he said.
The state minister said that the government’s important projects are being implemented at the field level under the supervision of the UNOs.
They are directly supervising the implementation of various programmes including the farmer card, family card, imam-muezzin card, and canal excavation, he added.
The BNP government is the government of the people and believes in women’s empowerment, Shahe Alam said.
He further said that the BNP has also started working to take measures regarding political matters.
Besides, he highlighted the need to reduce pressure on groundwater by increasing the supply of surface water from rivers and ponds.
