Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has discussed a proposal for the direct purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Japan-based JERA Global Markets Pte. Ltd. (JERAGM), deciding to consider it at a subsequent meeting after vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, says BSS report.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the 35th meeting of the committee this year, held virtually on Saturday.
According to the Cabinet Division, only one proposal, submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, was placed before the meeting for discussion.
The proposal sought in-principle approval for purchasing LNG directly from JERAGM under Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, and Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.
It also sought in-principle approval for signing the finalised Short-Term LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) and the Term Sheet between Petrobangla and JERAGM.
Following discussions, the committee decided to place the proposal before a subsequent meeting after obtaining vetting from the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.
