Adaptation measures to be strengthened to tackle climate impacts: Environment Adviser

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has announced that the government will intensify its climate adaptation efforts to address the growing impacts of climate change.

She emphasised that sustainable and science-based programs will be adopted and implemented to protect the livelihoods and ensure the safety of people living in coastal, hilly, and drought-prone areas.

The Adviser made these remarks while presiding over a meeting titled “Adaptation Initiatives in Climate Change,” held on Sunday at the conference room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Hasan reiterated the government’s commitment to initiating essential adaptation projects, noting that all efforts will be designed in alignment with local needs and grounded in reality. She stressed the importance of coordination among government bodies and non-governmental organizations for effective implementation.

“To confront the challenges of climate change, we must work collectively to build an integrated and inclusive adaptation framework,” she said.

Also present at the meeting were Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Mohammad Navid Shafiullah, Joint Secretary (Climate Change) Dharitri Kumar Sarkar, and other ministry officials and NGO representatives. Participants exchanged views on current adaptation strategies, existing challenges, and potential future initiatives.
