Dr. Salwa Abdullah F. Alhajja, CEO of Saudi Development Med (SDM) Company, emphasised the critical role of women’s education and technological development in boosting Bangladesh’s economic and social progress.
Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “An Overview of Bangladesh’s Energy Sector with a Spotlight on Women in Energy” held at Petrobangla today, Dr. Alhajja stated that only through greater female participation can the nation move forward and its economic growth accelerate.
Dr. Alhajja, on her first visit to Bangladesh, expressed her excitement and stressed that “for the sustainable development of the country, women must be included at every level of society.”
She urged everyone to transcend gender differences and work collaboratively. Highlighting the strong relationship between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, she affirmed SDM’s commitment to the development of the underprivileged and shared her own inspiring life journey.
SDM Company Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rahman, a special guest, expressed his satisfaction in collaborating with the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
He noted the significant contributions of women in prominent roles and expressed his desire to expand technological development projects in Bangladesh, building on a successful initial venture.
He lauded the talent of Bangladesh’s new generation and advocated for equal opportunities based on merit for sustainable national development.
Petrobangla Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman, also a special guest, acknowledged the increased awareness and efficient work of women across all levels within Petrobangla and its affiliates.
He expressed interest in partnering with SDM to develop Petrobangla’s digital monitoring system.
Zahida Parveen, Secretary of the Cabinet Division (Coordination and Reforms), highlighted the growing participation and contribution of women in the civil sector, noting their progress despite challenges.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation Chairman (Secretary) Md. Amin Ul Ahsan, chairing the seminar, anticipated a stronger future relationship with SDM in areas like energy security, artificial intelligence, and technological development. He commended Dr. Alhajja’s address and sought collective efforts to advance Bangladesh’s energy sector.
Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (Development) of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, delivered the welcome address at the seminar, which saw the attendance of senior officials, representatives from government and private organizations, and members of the media.
