U.S. sees export growth opportunities in Bangladesh: Paul Frost

The United States sees significant opportunities to expand exports to Bangladesh in several priority sectors, including power and energy, aviation, agriculture, infrastructure, defense and security equipment, ICT, and healthcare, according to Paul Frost, Commercial Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) at the Sheraton Dhaka on Tuesday, Frost said the U.S. Embassy is working closely with AmCham and government officials to help address challenges faced by American companies.

“By improving Bangladesh’s investment climate, U.S. companies will prosper, and U.S. exports will flow more freely,” he noted.

AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed highlighted Bangladesh’s rising importance as a U.S. trade and investment destination. He pointed out that the U.S. is the single largest source of FDI in Bangladesh, contributing not only capital but also technology, knowledge transfer, and global best practices.

Ahmed stressed that attracting more U.S. investment will require modernizing logistics, simplifying customs procedures, removing non-tariff barriers, strengthening intellectual property rights enforcement, and improving labor standards. He also emphasized opportunities in ICT, renewable energy, and digital commerce, where U.S. expertise could play a transformative role.

The event brought together AmCham leaders, executives from member companies, senior government officials, development partners, diplomats, economists, and media representatives.
