Robi CEO Ziad Shatara elected AMTOB president

Ziad Shatara, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Robi Axiata PLC, has been elected president of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB), the industry body representing mobile network operators in Bangladesh.

Mr Shatara was elected during the organisation’s virtual annual general meeting on March 11 and will serve a two-year term starting April 1. He succeeds Yasir Azman, chief executive of Grameenphone.

AMTOB also announced its new board appointments, naming Johan Buse, chief executive of Banglalink, as senior vice-president, while Mr Azman will serve as vice-president. Nurul Mabud Chowdhury, managing director of Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd, has been appointed director.

The meeting was moderated by Mohammad Zulfikar, director and secretary-general of AMTOB.

Senior representatives from member and associate organisations also took part in the AGM, including executives from Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi Axiata and Teletalk.

Speaking after his appointment, Mr Shatara said the mobile telecommunications sector plays a central role in Bangladesh’s digital economy.

“This industry touches every individual in the country, and we are committed to shaping a smart and sustainable digital future,” he said. “By working closely with regulators and industry partners, we aim to unlock the sector’s full potential to drive economic growth.”

He added that the association would focus on responding to the country’s evolving digital needs, promoting innovation and expanding connectivity across Bangladesh.
