Bangladesh’s energy regulator has reduced jet fuel prices for domestic and international flights after a series of steep increases linked to global supply disruptions triggered by tensions between Iran and the United States.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the revised rates on Thursday, lowering domestic aviation fuel prices by nearly Tk 22 per litre after cumulative increases of Tk 132 over recent months.
Under the new pricing structure, jet fuel for domestic routes has been cut to Tk 205.45 per litre from Tk 227.08 previously.
For international flights, the regulator reduced the price to $1.3385 per litre, duty and VAT exempt, from $1.4806 per litre.
The revised prices took effect from midnight on Thursday.
Bangladesh had maintained comparatively low jet fuel prices at the start of the year. In January, jet fuel cost Tk 94.93 per litre, which rose marginally to Tk 95.12 in February.
However, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East disrupted global fuel supplies from late February, pushing prices sharply higher in Bangladesh. In March, authorities raised jet fuel prices for the first time to Tk 112.41 per litre.
A second increase followed within two weeks on 24 March, when prices jumped to 202.29 taka per litre. In April, prices climbed again to reach Tk 227.08 per litre before the latest reduction.
