Bangladesh receives fresh 8,000 tonnes of diesel from India via pipeline

Bangladesh has received a fresh consignment of 8,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline, boosting fuel supply in the country.

The shipment, imported from India, has reached the Parbatipur depot of Padma Oil Company Limited, officials said.

Kazi Md. Robiul Alam, Manager (Operations) at Meghna Petroleum Limited, confirmed the media on Saturday that pumping of diesel from Numaligarh Refinery Limited began around midnight on April 7. The entire consignment arrived at the depot by Friday midnight, and distribution is now underway.

He noted that diesel imports through the pipeline are part of an ongoing process. If conditions remain normal, another 5,000 metric tonnes are scheduled to be pumped on April 17.

Md Ahsan Habib Chowdhury, Deputy Manager (Operations) at Padma Oil’s Parbatipur depot, said the latest delivery has ensured adequate diesel stock at the facility.

Earlier, Bangladesh received 10,000 metric tonnes of diesel in two shipments on March 11 and 23, followed by another 7,000 tonnes on April 1 via the same pipeline.

With the latest arrival, total diesel imports through the pipeline have reached 25,000 metric tonnes across four consignments.
