Bangladesh will buy two more cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar in November, as the government moves to secure additional gas supplies amid persistent shortages.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Wednesday recommended approving the purchase of the two cargoes from QatarEnergy Trading LLC under a long-term government-to-government arrangement, at a price different from the existing contract formula.
The cargoes are scheduled for delivery on November 6 and 22, 2026, according to the proposal placed before the committee.
For the two cargoes, the proposed price is $0.02 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) below the Japan Korea Marker (JKM), with QatarEnergy Trading LLC named as the recommended supplier.
The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, made the recommendation at a meeting at the Secretariat yesterday.
Meanwhile, the committee also recommended cancelling Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s international open tender for importing gas oil (diesel) and Jet A-1 for the September-December 2026 period.
The tender covered four packages for importing the petroleum products. The Energy and Mineral Resources Division placed the proposal for cancellation before the committee, which recommended its approval.
The LNG purchase was placed under the miscellaneous agenda of the meeting.
