Bangladesh’s inward remittances rise to $2.56bn in Oct

Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $2.56 billion in remittances during October, according to the latest data released by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday.

The figure marks a notable year-on-year increase, reflecting steady inflows ahead of the upcoming festive and migration season.

At an exchange rate of Tk 122 per dollar, the October inflow amounts to around Tk 31,273 crore, with an average of $82.6 million arriving each day.

Bangladesh Bank data show that total remittance receipts for October stood at $2.563 billion, up by $168 million from the $2.395 billion received in the same month last year.

The central bank’s monthly breakdown indicates that during the current fiscal year 2024–25, Bangladesh received $2.478 billion in July, $2.421 billion in August, and $2.685 billion in September.

In March 2025, remittance inflows reached a record high of $3.29 billion, the highest monthly figure of that fiscal year.

By the end of fiscal year 2024–25, total remittances amounted to $30.33 billion, marking a 26.8% increase over the previous year.

In comparison, Bangladesh received $23.91 billion in remittances during the 2023–24 fiscal year, with monthly inflows ranging between $1.91 billion and $3.29 billion.

Economists attribute the sustained growth in remittance inflows to a combination of improved exchange rate incentives and stricter oversight of informal transfer channels.
