The supply of natural gas in the grid improved significantly that also help to increase the supply of electricity across the country.
According to Petrobangla, the repair works at Anwara-Foujdarhat Gas pipeline completed by the Gas Transmission Company of Bangladesh (GTCL) on Friday. Now, the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) measured 600mmcfd on Saturday.
It also boosted the generation of electricity by additional 1200 (MW) megawatts to 5381MW on Saturday from only 4191MW on Friday afternoon. The cut of power generation due to gas crisis pushes to forced load shedding of electricity in different consumer end across the country on Friday.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the repair of the damaged 42” diameter Anwara-Foujdarhat pipeline was completed at 7:20 am on Friday.
The 42” diameter Anwara-Fouzdarhat Pipeline was damaged on July 9, 2024 at a point between Karnaphuli Tunnel and Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company (Kafco).
Petrobangla official data found that the country’s gas supply has declined to 2253 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) due to a shortfall in imported LNG supply after the incident. After repair, the grid added additional 600mmcfd of LNG. The supply of gas will improve further as the Petrobangla is expected to resume another LNG terminal operated by Summit Group. The terminal damaged on May 27, 2024.
The country has been experiencing frequent load shedding for the last few days as the power generation witnessed a fall due to acute gas shortage.
According to official statistics of the Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, the country was witnessing about 2000 MW of shortage in power supply.
Power utility officials are attributing to drastic fall in gas supply to power plants for this situation.
