Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL), a subsidiary of Petrobangla, has appointed the joint venture (JV) consultancy firm Tumas-Innovate to modernise the gas distribution infrastructure in the northern region of Bangladesh.
A formal agreement was signed recently at PGCL’s head office in Nalka, Sirajganj. The signing ceremony was presided over by PGCL Managing Director Md. Zakir Hossain. The agreement was signed by Md. Sahinul Alam, Company Secretary of PGCL, and Engr. Rana Masud, Chief Executive Officer of Innovate Engineering and Development.
Under the agreement, Tumas-Innovate will provide consultancy services covering engineering design, procurement support, on-site construction supervision, commissioning, system monitoring and control, as well as full management of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) installations.
The project aims to enable real-time monitoring of gas supply, reduce system loss, improve operational efficiency and transparency, and enhance customer service.
Funding for the project is being jointly provided by the Government of Bangladesh, PGCL, and the World Bank.
“This is a pioneering initiative in the country’s gas distribution sector, launched with the collaboration of the World Bank and the Government of Bangladesh,” said PGCL Managing Director Md. Zakir Hossain. “Our goal is to establish an efficient gas distribution system that minimises wastage and ensures effective pressure management.”
He added that the initiative is expected to significantly improve operational performance and contribute to increased revenue generation.
Commenting on behalf of the Tumas-Innovate JV, Innovate CEO Engr. Rana Masud said, “This project will bring tangible benefits to Bangladesh’s gas distribution sector through the deployment of advanced SCADA and GIS technologies.”
He expressed hope that the partnership would result in a technology-driven gas supply system by combining global expertise with local execution.
