Record power generation at Rampal Power Plant

The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant (2×660 MW) at Rampal, Bagerhat, operated by Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL), has set a new benchmark by generating 771.70 million units of electricity at a plant load factor (PLF) of 78.58% in August 2025.

This marks the highest monthly output since its commissioning, contributing 7.62% of Bangladesh’s total generation of 10,100 million units during the month. For three consecutive months, the plant has consistently generated over 600 million units, with a total of 2,036.4 million units produced.

A flagship symbol of Bangladesh-India cooperation, the plant runs on imported coal and is equipped with ultra-supercritical technology and advanced environmental safeguards, including flue-gas desulphurisation (FGD), high-efficiency electrostatic precipitators, a 275-meter chimney, closed-cycle cooling, and zero liquid discharge systems. These measures ensure cleaner and more reliable power generation.

Despite its reliance on imported fuel, the plant’s scale, efficiency, and steady performance provide Bangladesh with stable and comparatively affordable electricity. It supports industries, boosts investor confidence, and reduces the risk of supply disruptions.

By enhancing energy security and driving economic growth, the Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant stands as both a source of national pride and a cornerstone of the country’s journey toward sustainable development.
