Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, called for urgent global action and stronger international cooperation to ensure sustainable plastic use and achieve a carbon-neutral development pathway.
Speaking at the High-Level Ministerial Roundtable for Action Towards a Circular Economy, held in conjunction with World Environment Day 2025 in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Hasan underscored the need for a united global effort to address plastic pollution and climate challenges.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s commitment to environmental sustainability, she reiterated the country’s readiness to collaborate with international partners on initiatives related to plastic and waste management, as well as forest conservation. She also emphasized Bangladesh’s intention to actively follow up on related projects to ensure long-term impact and continuity.
On the sidelines of the summit, Rizwana Hasan held bilateral meetings with the Governor of Jeju Province and the Vice Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in key areas including waste management, forest restoration, and wildlife conservation. The Korean officials expressed strong interest in deepening partnerships with Bangladesh to foster a safer, greener future.
As part of her official visit to the Republic of Korea from June 3–6, Hasan also participated in the General Assembly of the Green Transition Initiative (GTI) and attended the Seminar on Plastic Policy and Industry.
She was accompanied by Toufiq Islam Shatil, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea, and Mirza Shawkat Ali, Director of the Department of Environment.
