2nd Climate Justice Summit 2024 urges immediate action to combat climate crisis

The 2nd Climate Justice Summit 2024 kicked off in Dhaka, focusing on the urgent need to address the impacts of climate change and ensure a sustainable future.

The two-day event, held at the Liberation War Museum Auditorium in Agargaon, was organized by the environmental and climate change advocacy group, Dhoritri Rokkha Amra (We, the Earth Protectors).

The summit brought together experts, activists, and policymakers to discuss critical issues surrounding climate justice, with a strong emphasis on immediate action, climate finance, and transitioning to renewable energy.

The summitā€™s opening ceremony featured keynotes from prominent figures, including Sharmeen S. Murshid, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare, and Dr. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Advisor to Dhoritri Rokkha Amra. The event highlighted the devastating impact of climate change on agriculture, food security, and vulnerable communities, calling for developed countries responsible for climate warming to provide compensation and support to the most affected nations. The program underscored the necessity of shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources to ensure a sustainable and equitable future for all.

The summit also featured discussions on the pressing need for climate financing and the role of global cooperation in tackling the climate crisis. Participants emphasized that the time for urgent action is now, and Bangladesh, one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, must continue to push for a fair climate justice framework that guarantees the rights of those most affected.
