Gas supply dips during Eid holiday as Bibiyana, Jalalabad fields shut for maintenance

The country’s natural gas supply is expected to drop by up to 609 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) during the Eid holidays due to partial and full shutdowns of the Bibiyana and Jalalabad gas fields for scheduled maintenance.

The Bibiyana gas field has already begun an eight-day partial maintenance program, while the Jalalabad gas field commenced partial maintenance today. It is scheduled to undergo a full shutdown for three days from June 8 to June 10, 2025.

In addition, the Muchai gas compressor station will remain shut for 48 hours during the Eid vacation, further affecting supply.

According to Petrobangla officials, the impact of the reduced gas supply is expected to be minimal as most industrial operations will remain closed for the 10-day Eid break.

Currently, the Jalalabad gas field supplies around 145 mmcfd, while Bibiyana contributes approximately 1,040 mmcfd to the national grid. The total average supply stands at 2,907 mmcfd.

During the Eid holidays, Petrobangla estimates gas supply to drop to:

  • June 8: 2,207 mmcfd
  • June 9: 2,411 mmcfd
  • June 10: 2,298 mmcfd
  • June 11: 2,379 mmcfd
  • June 12: 2,829 mmcfd

On Eid day itself, the expected supply is around 2,553 mmcfd.

Officials emphasized that the maintenance is routine and necessary to ensure the long-term efficiency and safety of gas infrastructure.
