BPI signs MoUs with five institutions to boost energy research

In a landmark step toward strengthening research, education, training, and technological advancement in Bangladesh’s energy and mineral resources sector, the Bangladesh Petroleum Institute (BPI) has signed separate Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with five renowned institutions.

The agreement, titled Cooperation in Energy Research and Capacity Building,” was signed on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at BPI’s headquarters in Dhaka.

Under this MoU, BPI has partnered with the Department of Geology and Mining, University of Rajshahi; Institute of Mining, Mineralogy and Metallurgy (BCSIR); Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering (PMRE), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET); Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla); and CodersTrust Limited.

This multifaceted collaboration aims to enhance human resources and technological capacity crucial for ensuring energy security and sustainable development in Bangladesh, official hoped.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, as the Chief Guest, and Md. Amin Ul Ahsan, Chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Secretary, as the Special Guest. The event was chaired by Khenchan, Director General of BPI, who also signed the MoU on behalf of the institution.

The other signatories included Professor Dr. Younus Ahmed Khan, Chairman, Department of Geology and Mining, University of Rajshahi; Md. Shamsul Haque, CEO, CodersTrust Limited; Abul Fatah Md. Baligur Rahman, Member, BCSIR; Dr. Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Professor and Head, PMRE Department, BUET; and Md. Amzad Hossain, Secretary and Senior General Manager, Petrobangla.

The representatives expressed optimism that this joint initiative would open a new chapter in research and training within Bangladesh’s energy and mineral sectors.

They emphasized that this partnership among academic, research, and industrial entities will have a long-term positive impact on hydrocarbon and mineral exploration, extraction, and skilled workforce development.

BPI, a national training and research institute under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, continues to play a pivotal role in advancing knowledge and innovation in Bangladesh’s energy sector.
