The government has promoted Md. Ziaul Huq to secretary and appointed him as secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD), as part of a senior civil service reshuffle announced on Thursday.
The Ministry of Public Administration confirmed the promotion in a separate notification issued on August 6, 2026.
Prior to his appointment, Md Ziaul Huq served as an additional secretary at the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. He was also recently given additional responsibility for overseeing the state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), which operates under the division.
He succeeds Mohammad Saiful Islam, who has been transferred to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
In the same round of appointments, Jasmin Nahar, an additional secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was promoted to secretary and appointed secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
The latest appointments form part of the government’s regular administrative reshuffle of senior civil servants.
