Air Astra takes delivery of 2nd new ATR 72-600 aircraft, expanding fleet to five

Bangladesh’s youngest private scheduled airline, Air Astra, has taken delivery of its second brand-new ATR 72-600 aircraft as part of its continuing fleet and network expansion.

The aircraft, registered S2-STE, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 7:30pm local time on Wednesday, marking another milestone in the carrier’s growth.

With the addition of the new aircraft, Air Astra’s fleet has expanded to five aircraft, strengthening its operational capacity and domestic connectivity.

The ATR 72-600 is equipped with latest-generation Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engines, designed to improve efficiency and performance for regional operations. The aircraft is configured with 72 Geven Neo Prestige seats, offering passengers a modern and comfortable travel experience across the airline’s domestic network.

Air Astra said the arrival of its second new ATR 72-600 reflects its commitment to building a modern, efficient and reliable fleet while responding to growing demand for domestic air travel in Bangladesh.

Imran Asif, chief executive of Air Astra, said: “The arrival of our second brand-new ATR 72-600 is another proud milestone in Air Astra’s journey.

“Reaching a fleet of five aircraft is a testament to the dedication of our team and the continued trust of our passengers and partners. We remain committed to strengthening our fleet, expanding our network and delivering a safe, reliable and comfortable flying experience to our passengers.”

The addition of S2-STE is expected to further support Air Astra’s expanding operations and strengthen its presence in Bangladesh’s domestic aviation market.

The airline said the larger fleet would help it improve connectivity between key destinations across the country as it continues to expand its network.
