Anwar Cement Sheet takes bold step toward sustainability with pursuit of LEED certification

Anwar Cement Sheet Limited, a division of Anwar Group of Industries, is making significant strides toward environmental sustainability by seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for its production plant in Gazaria, Munshiganj.

This move highlights the company’s commitment to adopting global green building standards and reducing its environmental impact.

The initiative was formalized through a partnership with 360° Total Solution Limited (TSL), a leading LEED consultancy in Bangladesh.

The two companies signed an agreement at Anwar Group’s headquarters in Motijheel, Dhaka, with key attendees including Waeez R. Hossain, Deputy Managing Director of Anwar Group, and Ananta Ahmed, Managing Director of 360° TSL.

The LEED certification will cover areas like energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, indoor air quality, and sustainable maintenance. The plant will be certified under the Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB O+M) v4 2014 Rating System, setting a new benchmark for sustainable industrial operations in Bangladesh.

Waeez R. Hossain emphasized that Anwar Cement Sheet products, particularly its Duraroof brand, offer environmental benefits like high durability, energy efficiency, recyclable materials, and low CO2 emissions. “By adhering to global green building standards, we aim to improve operations and contribute to environmental conservation,” he said.

Ananta Ahmed of 360° TSL noted that their assessment indicates the project is on track for LEED Platinum certification. “Anwar Cement Sheet is a unique, durable product with a minimal carbon footprint, designed to reduce heat gain and lower energy consumption,” he added.

Anwar Cement Sheet’s products, widely used for industrial and residential applications, can reduce indoor temperatures by up to 12°C, cutting energy use and carbon emissions. The pursuit of LEED Platinum certification solidifies the company’s leadership in sustainable construction.

The signing ceremony was attended by key figures from Anwar Group, reflecting the company’s unified commitment to sustainability and innovation. Through this initiative, Anwar Cement Sheet is setting a new standard for environmental responsibility in Bangladesh’s industrial sector.

The attendees include Kanchon Saha, GM of Sales & Marketing at Anwar Galvanizing Ltd; Suman Saha, Senior Manager of Media & Corporate Affairs at Anwar Group; Mahbub Alam, Marketing Manager at Anwar Cement Sheet Ltd; and Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Brand Manager at Anwar Cement Sheet Ltd.
