The aviation sector in Dubai has had a significant impact on the economy, contributing USD 37.3 billion, or 27 percent (PC) of the emirate’s GDP in 2023.
A report by Oxford Economics, released by Emirates Group and Dubai Airports, forecasts this figure to rise to 32pc by 2030.
The aviation sector, which includes Emirates, Dubai Airports, flydubai, and various supporting entities, accounted for 631,000 jobs in 2023—one in five jobs in the emirate. This number is expected to grow, with an additional 185,000 aviation-linked jobs projected by 2030, bringing the total to 816,000 jobs.
Aviation also drives international tourism, with visitors spending an average of AED 4,300 during their stay. In 2023, aviation-facilitated tourism spending contributed approximately 8.5PC of Dubai’s GDP, supporting 329,000 jobs. The tourism sector is anticipated to expand significantly over the next six years, contributing 10PC to Dubai’s projected GDP.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group, emphasized the aviation sector’s crucial role in Dubai’s economic growth strategy and its importance in the D33 Economic Agenda.
